Sixteen years ago today...
Kyrie was born, 4 weeks early. She had a ton of unruly fluffy hair. She had adorable chubby cheeks. And, oh, those baby toes! She changed my life for the better..and has every day since. I am lucky to be her mom, to have her in my life. I am lucky that she still sits on my lap, that she cries with me in her sorrows, that she says the dumbest things and I just roll my eyes. I am proud that she is passionate about music, that she works hard in school and that she loves her Father in Heaven. I am blessed that she cooks dinner when I don't feel well, reminds me that I am a good person and tells me that she loves me. I love you and you will ALWAYS be my baby!!
KYRIE'S STATS:

Favorite color: Green, and has been ever since she was 18 months old and saw the Wizard of Oz.

Favorite subject: Band, band, and oh, did I mention BAND?
Favorite item: Cell phone
Hobbies: Band, reading, band, baking, band (not necessarily in that order)
Driving status: drivers ed. next term PLEASE... we need a break from driving you to BAND!!

Hill Air Force Base Museum
Friday Family Adventures were few and far between this last summer. We were so busy with Into the Woods, Trek, Marching Band and camps that we neglected our family fun time.We were able to go to the museum at Hill Air Force Base. Mom and Dad met us there.
It is free to get in and is a whole lot of fun to walk around and look at the planes and helicopters. There is a great exhibit of air force uniforms and masks.
Some of the planes and helicopters were so huge. It was unreal how large some of them are.
The only bad thing was that there is no air conditioning and it was really hot inside those buildings.
Make sure you take a picnic lunch. There are picnic tables under the wing of a huge plane. There is a gift shop as well. http://www.hill.af.mil/library/museum/

Pony Express Days, 2010
Pony Express Days were really busy for us this year. Kyrie helped with parking at the rodeo and she and Scott sold concessions at the concert. Here's Tracy Lawrence in the parade:
Halle and Whitney walked in the parade with The Dance Studio.
Scott, Zach and I were in the parade for Eagle Mountain Community Theater. We handed out candy and flyers with the cast of Into the Woods to promote the summer workshop. We handed out 600 flyers and ran out 1/2 way through.
The little girls performed with their dance groups. They were so cute. But the best part of all was after we ate lunch, Halle climbed up on the stage by herself and danced to the music. The clip isn't long, but she was on stage for about 5 minutes!

Perspective
Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to get a wake-up call and attend a really great funeral. Can you call a funeral great? Of course, I wish I didn't have to go, that Rosie was still here with her beautiful daughters. But as funerals go, it was a really great funeral. I am very glad I was there to partake of the sweet spirit and get a reminder about the important things in life.
Rosie was married to my husband's cousin. I met her before Scott and I were engaged. She is one of the strongest women I've ever met; both physically and personality. She was always so kind. She made you feel important when you visited with her. She wanted to know all about you and what you and your family were up too. I always looked forward to seeing her at stock-shows the Arnolds went to. We dropped by her house a few times, once after we first moved to Utah County and took the kids trick-or-treating. She loved her daughters very much. She took such good care of them under difficult circumstances and was so proud of them and her accomplishments.
One day, she gave us a miniature cabbage patch doll. She saw it on the shelf at a store and had to purchase it for us because the doll's name was Kyrie. That doll is still in the box in Kyrie's room. That small gesture really touched me. I have never forgotten it.
The thing that struck me most about Rosie, though, was how happy she was. Her life was not an easy one. She lost her parents when she was young. She had a difficult marriage and an even more difficult divorce. She struggled as a single mother. Yet, I don't ever remember seeing her not happy. No one would have blamed her if she had become angry, even bitter. But she didn't. She was always happy when I saw her. She was a hard worker and gave everything her all.
What a great example to me. I am so sad that she passed away in a car accident. I am so worried for the 3 teenager girls she left behind. I pray for them daily. But as I've thought about them the last few days, I have once again been reminded of the important things in life. The REALLY important things. We need to stop being so self-centered and think of others. We need to take time to appreciate our families, our friends and each other. We need to remember where we came from and why we are here. We need to love each other more and find fault a little less.
I will still be spending countless hours over the next 2 weeks working on Beauty and the Beast, but I will do so with more appreciation for those who are helping and I will do it with more love for the students in the cast. I will still neglect my family some, but I pray I will have patience with them and they will support me.
Thank you, Rosie for being an example to me. Thank you for your kindness, thank you for your testimony. And I will continue to pray for your girls and do everything I am able to help them through their tough times.

The Dance Recital That Wasn't.........yet
The girls have been working very hard to get ready for a dance recital that was suppose to be today. They have been looking forward to wearing their new dance costumes, especially Halle. Unfortunately, I got a call from their dance teacher that the place we were suppose to perform at had been double booked. The girls were so sad. After tears and sadness, especially Halle, I had a great idea. I decided to call Aunt Sandi and see if she would come over and take the girls pictures in their dance costumes. This helped calm the sadness. We had such a fun time taking the photos. My girls love to have their picture taken. And Sandi did a fantastic job. Thanks, Sandi!

BEHIND THE TIMES: Halloween, Pony Express Style
I found these fun pictures on my camera. Shame on me for not sharing before, but they are too fun to pass up now.
This is Mr. A.'s son and he dressed up as--Mr. A. complete with shaved head! I laughed so hard.
The second grade teachers kept their costumes top secret. They were all different flavors of ice cream cones. With a cherry on top.
And, here's Dog, the Bounty Hunter (Frank) I was just sad that Missy didn't dress up as Dog's wife! I would like to have seen that.
Look at this beautiful little Tinker Bell!
And these M&M's showed up everywhere!
Here's Mary, the nutty one!
They took over Doug's office,
and caused all sorts of problems!
They totally made themselves at home.
And, yes, we made most of the M&M's ourselves!!!

West Lake Marching Thunder
Kyrie decided to take on a new past-time this year: Marching Band. She had NO IDEA what she was getting herself into. By the 3rd day of Band Camp (please, no band camp jokes here!) she was ready to quit. I tried to convince her that she needed to give it more than 2 days, but she was done! So I took her to the high school to tell the teachers herself. They helped me convince Kyrie that she would be upset with herself if she didn't keep going. Hundreds of dollars, several band trips and lots of competitions later, she is officially a BaNd GeEk.
West Lake is a brand new high school this year. It is one of the most beautiful schools I have seen. They are extremely lucky to have a marching band this year. They were a division 1A band. And they had an incredible season. They competed at Payson High School and received a 1st place trophy for their 1st competition. They received either 1st or 2nd at all of the competions and took home a lot of other trophies for percussion, color guard, music and visuals. They traveled to Pocatello, Idaho as well as St. George.
Well, this year was just the beginning of our band experience. Kyrie is only a freshman and is as devoted to marching band as I was to choir! The band has been invited to travel to Dallas Texas next year and play in a competion and be in the parade for the Cotton Bowl!
Thanks, Mr. Mangelson for making this an amazing experience for the kids and the families. Congratulations, West Lake and good job, Kyrie. We are proud of you!

Whitney and Brittley

Last summer, my niece, Brittley, came to stay for a few days. We went swimming and all sorts of fun things. But the girls had the best time shopping for school clothes. When we got home, they had to model all of them for me. Silly girls. I loved having Britt here. She and Whitney are the closest of all of the cousins. They are such good friends.
