Poor, Poor Zach

My poor angel. On Tuesday, Zach was at school playing and happy. At about 3:00, he started not feeling well. I thought he had the stomach flu. But, at midnight, he came and woke me up and told me he needed to go to a doctor. What kid asks to go to a doctor- so I knew he must be in a lot of pain. I suspected it was his appendix, so I had him stand on his toes and drop down on his heels (the famous Arnold diagnosis). His pain was unbearable and I knew it was appendicitis.
We drove to the AF hospital and were in the ER before 1:00 am. The ER staff was so nice to him. The doctor checked his tummy and asked lots of questions. He decided not to send him in for more tests and just call the surgeon. Well, Zach freaked out. He decided he wanted to go home. I had to call Scott in Minnesota and let him know what was going on.
A tech named Bill came in to insert an I.V. and draw blood. He was awesome. He got Zach calmed down and explained absolutely everything he was going to do. He showed him the needle and told him how the needle would come out and only the soft little tube would be left. Zach was very brave and in no time at all he had morphine through the I.V. He tried to sleep a little bit while we waited for the surgeon (he had just finished the first appendectomy and was taking in a second- Zach was #3).
By 4:00 am, Zach was being wheeled into surgery. I went to the waiting room and tried to get a little sleep. A little after 5:00 both the surgeon and the anesthesiologist came out to tell me everything had gone well and he was in recovery. Zach has 3 little incisions where they did the laparoscopic procedure. It was his appendix- it was infected but had not burst.
At about 5:40, the nurse came and got me and we took Zach upstairs to the pediatric ward. He was doing well and I needed to go home to make arrangements for the girls and for school. Before I left, Zach asked if I could stop at the store and buy 'National Treasure 2'- way to work it, Zach. Scott's dad, Bruce, came and sat with Zach until about 8:00- thank you, thank you!
I got back around 9:00 and Zach was eating jell-o and looked better. The nurse told me that the doctor's orders said Zach could go home as soon as his vitals were stable and he could keep down oral medication and liquids. Zach got more jell-o, chocolate ice cream, watched his new movie, got some real food for lunch and they sent us home!!!
It was a rough couple of days. He was in a lot of pain and just felt miserable. Yesterday, he was feeling a little better and was bored out of his mind. Of course, there was no one else to take it out on but me- it's a good thing I love him so much!!
Today he's doing even better and I think by Tuesday he'll be ready to go back to school. Field day's out though- poor Zach. Hopefully, Ms. Martinez will have a job for him to do. He can't lift anything for 6 weeks. I hope he's ready for basketball camp on June 2.
I had to mow the lawn today- poor Mom!

Happy Birthday, Scott!!

Happy birthday, Scott! Since Scott had to leave for Minnesota this morning at 5, we had cheesecake for him yesterday. Notice the candle- that's all we could find. But, since I claim Scott hasn't grown up yet, I guess it's appropriate.
We won't tell anyone how old you really are (but here are 38 things about Scott):
1. Scott grew up on a pig farm and showed at stock shows every summer.
2. Scott lives in the 80's. We even got him a shirt that says, "I'm from the 80's."
3. Scott has a "math curse." He has to figure out and celebrate numbers.
4. Because of #3, Scott got out of his car when it hit 100,000 miles and ran around it in celebration.
5. Scott was in FFA in high school and got to travel to conferences, etc.
6. Scott played trombone in the Marching Band! (I still have yet to hear him play)
7. Scott likes to organize things. One day I came home from work to find the pantry organized in alphabetical order.
8. Scott attended USU in BIS.
9. Scott has had many jobs including stocker at Macey's and vacuum salesman.
10. Scott is not allowed to have video games because he called in sick to work after purchasing a new system- I made him return it.
11. Scott HATES black licorice.
12. Scott had to wait for his brother to come home from his mission to be the best man at our wedding. The worst snow storm of the year occured on our wedding day.
13. Scott LOVES to sing in the car. He cranks that 80's music as loud as he can and belts it out.
14. Scott almost drowned at Bear Lake. Thanks, Richie, for saving him. Sorry about the scars.
15. Now that we have a trailer, Scott loves to go camping in it. We really rough-it with the TV, microwave and generator!
16. Scott loves to fix people's computers and he is very good at it.
17. He loves to collect stuff that he thinks we might need later, such as furniture, office equipment.
18. Scott loves to play basketball with Zach.
19. Scott loves to argue with Kyrie.
20. Scott loves to cuddle with Halle.
21. Scott loves to watch tv with Whitney.
22. He loves crime shows on TV. His favorites are CSI and NCIS.
23. Scott loves frozen burritos and Del Taco, but,
24. his favorite place to eat is Tucchanos.
25. Scott recently discovered surplus sales and has purchased, fixed-up, and re-sold several computers this winter.
26. Scott is loved by his bosses and is often called in on 'special projects.' That's why he's in Minnesota right now.
27. Scott worked swing shift when Halle was a baby so that he could be home with her while I was at work. She is still a Daddy's girl.

28. Scott hates having pets (except fish). He hated our hyper dog, Dexter. He also claimed to hate our cat Zuzuz (Kyrie named him:), but I saw him let the cat in several times and sit and pet him ;)
29. Scott loves soda pop. I finally convinced him to switch to diet, now I just need to convince him to go caffeine free.
30. Scott served his mission in New York City- he actually served in the same building where Ronnie's family went to church- small world.
31. Scott ruins laundry, but is very helpful doing dishes every day.
32. Scott did all the work to finish our basement.
33. Scott is very supportive of my job. He comes to all of my performances, takes us to St. George to the music conference and even gets a Qwest donation twice a year for my music program--thank you, thank you.
34. Scott is a really good dad. Sometimes, however, he drives me crazy because he can be overprotective.
35. Scott loves gardening- NOT. He just loves the finished product: a beautiful yard and vegetables.
36. Scott loves Tabasco sauce and puts in everything from eggs to pizza.
37. Scott's family loves and appreciates him very much.
38. Scott was stuck in the Denver airport for his birthday today- sorry about that!

Something to Blog About

Y Scott left last Monday to go to Minnesota to do audits of the Central Offices for Qwest. By Wednesday he was bored and lonely. Halle was mad at him for 3 days and refused to talk to him on the phone. Yesterday, Halle started telling everyone that her dad was in "Soda" and he was drinking it all! Too funny!!
Y On Friday, I sluffed school. I'd had a headache for a couple of days and just needed a break. By the afternoon, I was feeling a little better so we left to go to Clarkston to visit our moms. I love Cache Valley. It is so beautiful there. It was really cold for the weekend but it was a good visit.
Y On the way to Clarkston, my sister, Amanda, started getting a runny nose and sore throat. She thought it was allergies, I thought it was a cold. I was right. Poor Amanda. She laid around with a fever for 2 days taking any kind of medicine she could get her hands on. It's a good thing I drove!
Y Saturday night Kyrie started not feeling well. She had a sick tummy. She skipped church and I told her she couldn't go to Scott's mom's house because I didn't want her to get Scott's dad sick. But about an hour after we arrived at grandma's, Whitney started throwing up. It made for a very fun ride home. We stopped 2 or 3 times to puke. I don't do puke!!! Scott always takes care of that at our house or else he has to take care of 2 of us! Why did they wait for their dad to be gone to get the stomach flu?
Y On Friday, my sister Candis was watching the countdown for the new trailer to the Twilight movie. She watched the countdown to the very last second and.... nothing! No trailer, nothing. So Friday night she wanted to see if it was up yet. She tried to download it on my mom's computer (modem and land line) and it was way to slow. None of my family has wireless, but Amanda had her school laptop with her. They decided to drive around town and see if they could "borrow" someone's wireless. Candis, Amanda and Kyrie drove around forever. Most people had passwords. One connection came up in the middle of an intersection, but cars kept coming. They finally found an access at one house. Amanda kept telling Candis to 'back up' and 'pull forward' to get it just right. And then-- the family came out of the house. The dad looked angry and was poised to protect his family. The mom was peeking out from around the dad and she was angry, too. So my sisters just took off. I'm certain neighborhood watch is still looking for them. They never did get to see the Twilight trailer.
